Certificates Overview
You can use the Tagsmart platform to create Certificates of Authenticity for artworks which you have:
- created yourself
- are selling on behalf of the artist
- previously sold - you can get a link to enable collectors to register historical purchases and Certify them subject to your approval. Contact support@tagsmart.com to set this up.
Tagsmart Certificates are secure, physical documents, linked to auditable online records. In addition, you can use the platform to order digital/blockchain counterparts to your physical Certificates - see Digital & Blockchain Certification.
Certificates of Authenticity help reinforce collector trust and appreciation of artwork value. They also play a vital part on the platform in enabling transfers of artwork records between sellers and buyers. A collector can apply to 'register' a Certificate, kickstarting a process that, subject to authorisation, may transfer the work to their account (creating an account at the same time if needed).
Certificates can be replaced, revoked (if lost or stolen) and - if the buyer subsequently sells on the work in the secondary market - used to transfer the artwork record again.
Each Certificate contains:
- information about the artist and the artwork
- catalogue information - including a Certificate ID and Artwork ID - that enables the work to be identified via public search (if published) and may be used in transfers
- security information (mostly inaccessible to the public)
You need special permissions ('authority status') to issue a Certificate. See the related Help article All About Authorities for more information.
